David Green
Having been born on the west side of the Purcells, raised on the high southern Alberta plains in the eastern shadow of the mountains, and schooled in the Kootenays of B.C., I have been consistently and delightfully held captive by landscape. Although my first artistic focus and love was clay, that evolved in the early 90's to an exploration of water and paint.
For the most part, watercolor "paint" remains a mystery to me. I am not a "technical" painter. In the earliest days, I was influenced by my children. They taught me a lot about color, paper, brushes, light and shadow. They taught me not to be intimidated as we explored a world that children are so naturally comfortable with.
From my home above the Pincher Creek valley, there is not a day that goes by when I am not captured by the Rockies and the foothills, sunrise or sunset, cloud, intense blue skies, raging storms and a vast array of landforms. My "viewline" has led me to an interpretation of those things with a range of paint, water, paper, and a wide and often small rectangular format. My colors are generally soft and the layering of paint is thin. My hope is always that the viewer is drawn in by those elements… made to stand close to satisfy a curiosity.I am pleased by that intimacy.
